On June 2–3, 2026, the 4th Global Alliance of Confucius Institutes of Traditional Chinese Medicine Conference was held in Coimbra, Portugal. As a member institution of the Alliance and an important promoter of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) education in Europe, the Confucius Institute at Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF Iași) was invited to participate in the event.
Under the theme “Research on the Localization of Traditional Chinese Medicine Overseas,” the conference brought together more than one hundred experts, scholars, Confucius Institute faculty members, students, and representatives from various sectors from over ten countries, including Portugal, Spain, Romania, the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Hungary, Brazil, and Malaysia.
Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on a wide range of topics, including the internationalization of TCM education, the global promotion of clinical practice, integrative approaches combining traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and the application of artificial intelligence in TCM. The conference showcased the latest achievements of Confucius Institutes of Traditional Chinese Medicine worldwide in teaching, research, and cultural exchange, while exploring new pathways for the global development of Chinese medicine. The academic atmosphere was vibrant, fostering meaningful dialogue and international collaboration.
Professor Magdalena Cuciureanu, a member of the Board of Directors of the Confucius Institute and Head of the TCM Discipline at UMF Iași, delivered a presentation entitled “Bridging Ancient Wisdom and Modern Therapeutics: Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Era of Clinical Pharmacology.” Drawing upon contemporary perspectives in clinical pharmacology, Professor Cuciureanu examined the integration and application of traditional Chinese medicine within modern therapeutic practice. Her presentation highlighted innovative approaches to combining Chinese and Western medical traditions and received considerable attention and positive feedback from conference participants.
The successful convening of the conference not only provided the UMF Iași Confucius Institute with a valuable platform for academic exchange and international visibility, but also further strengthened resource sharing and collaborative innovation among Alliance members. The event injected new momentum into the coordinated development of global TCM education.
Looking ahead, the UMF Iași Confucius Institute will continue to leverage its unique strengths, deepen cooperation with Alliance members and partner institutions, and contribute actively to the internationalization of Traditional Chinese Medicine education and the building of a global community of health for all.
