
From May 16 to 17 local time, the Third Global Conference of Confucius Institutes for Traditional Chinese Medicine, themed “Promoting International Exchange and Cooperation in Traditional Chinese Medicine Education,” was held in Pécs, Hungary.
As a rising force in international education of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the Chinese and foreign directors of the Confucius Institute(CI) for TCM co-established by Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST)in Wuhan, China and the “Grigore T. Popa” University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF) in Iasi, Romania, were invited to attend the conference. Relevant officials from the university’s Confucius Institute Office also attended the event.
During the conference, Xu Xiaohu, a TCM professor at the CI for TCM at the UMF, delivered a keynote speech titled “Practice and Thinking on Characteristic Teaching of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Confucius Institute of UMF”. He introduced the practice and teaching achievements of the “Chinese Language + TCM” education model implemented by the CI for TCM at the UMF, sharing specific experiences and strategies for conducting TCM characteristic education through actual teaching cases, which garnered widespread attention and recognition from the attendees.
Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as “The Integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Modern Technology” and “Curriculum Development and Cultural Promotion,” showcasing the latest achievements of global Confucius Institutes for TCM in teaching, research, and cultural dissemination, further promoting the innovative development of TCM theory and practical skills. Some delegates were also invited to participate in roundtable discussions, delving into how to further promote the international spread of TCM culture and strengthen collaborative mechanisms within the alliance, expressing high expectations for the global development of TCM education.
The successful convening of this conference not only provided a platform for showcasing and exchange for the CI for TCM at UMF but also injected new vitality into the collaborative development of global TCM education. Looking ahead, UMF and HUST will continue to deepen cooperation and exchanges with global CI for TCM, making positive contributions to the dissemination of Chinese culture and the internationalization of TCM education.
The Third Global Conference of Confucius Institutes for Traditional Chinese Medicine was hosted by the Global Confucius Institute Alliance for TCM and organized by the Confucius Institute for TCM at Pécs University, aiming to strengthen communication and cooperation among global Confucius Institutes for TCM and promote the internationalization of TCM education. At this conference, over 50 individuals, including Chinese and foreign deans from 11 Confucius Institutes for TCM worldwide, representatives of various universities, and scholars, gathered to discuss new pathways for the international development of TCM.
